I love this place so much! I took up climbing a year and a half ago and I climb twice a week. I love the community, the classes, and all of the routes. It’s my happy place. Highly recommend if you want to try climbing in SF.
They also just added an upstairs lounge, which is really comfy to hang out in.
Recently toured the gym and participated in the Intro to Rope Climbing Class with my partner who is new to the sport. Hannah was a great instructor. We both felt very welcomed and enjoyed the atmosphere. The gym is located in an awesome location in the Presidio with great views of the bridge, city, and bay. They had a good variety of top rope, lead climbing, and bouldering and some cool features on the walls. There is also a gym area which looked well stocked.
Great gym, but expensive! I love doing classes & love different kinds of workouts so I wasn't surprised to enjoy Movement. The facilities were clean & we had a great time. I just can't afford to do day passes a bunch & I don’t want a full monthly membership. I wish they were on class pass or gym pass so I could do short sessions!!
Beautiful and picturesque gym. Took a free rope climbing class and it was great! Instructor was very kind and thorough. Plenty of bouldering routes too. Only downside is that the parking doesn't seem to be free. Worth a visit!
Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, there's a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate you'll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable. Bouldering is good, but the beginner routes start are harder than other gyms. Santa Clara has more beginner options, while this gym has a wide and even range of problems. Overall the routesetters at this gym are A+ on quality. They have nearly every training board that exists, the bluetooth bouldering wall, full weight training gym with treadmills and everything. Facilities are fantastic as this is an old factory building on the edge of Crissy Field, and from the walls you can literally look out at the bay and the SF skyline. They had the windows open and there was a gentle sea breeze coming in along with tons of natural light. This gym well exceeded all expectations, A+ 10/10 bravo folks.
Great gym in a beautiful location. Pricey memberships (pro tip: check Groupon for deals if you’re not sure about committing yet), but I think they’re on par with other gyms in the area. I’m only a beginner so I can’t speak too much on difficulty or how it compares to other gyms. But tons of selection for both bouldering and rope climbing, and routes are changed out very regularly. Sauna is a nice bonus. Weightlifting area is pretty robust as well considering this is a climbing gym foremost. Only complaint I can think of: I feel the weightlifting machines and equipment aren’t cleaned often/thoroughly enough.
More bouldering routes are becoming less friendly for short climbers lately. This gym used to be enjoyable with its delicate and technical routes, but now the style has shifted to being aggressive unless you’re tall or super strong. It’s …
My daughter celebrated her birthday by trying indoor rock climbing for the first time. This is a large facility with plenty of climbing options whether you practice bouldering or using a line. The staff is friendly, approachable and helpful …
Super fun gym to join or try out - the building is incredible, they’re always changing the routes, and have a great gym setup. …
Best Movement gym around! Got all the amenities any other one has, but this one takes the cake for it's scenic views of the Bay and Crissy Field. …
